Shoggoths are everyone’s favorite amorphic beasties. ‘In the Mountains of Madness’ describes the Shoggoth as “Formless protoplasm able to mock and reflect all forms… viscous agglutinations of bubbling cells… slaves of suggestion, builders of cities - more and more sullen, more and more intelligent, more and more amphibious… Great God! What madness made even those blasphemous Old Ones willing to use and carve such things?” In Mansions of Madness, if a Shoggoth shows up; you’re pretty much dead. These beautiful monstrosities are the subject of fear for just about every Call of Cthulhu Player.
For my iteration, I wanted to show the “bubbling undulation” as eyes that sprout and pop rhythmically throughout the thing’s minor tentacles while keeping the creature’s main features shark-smooth. For the mouth, I used a lamprey as reference. Those things terrify the sh*t outta me.
